EVENTS
How does the waiting list work?
If an event is full you can place yourself on the waiting list. If a spot comes available (usually there are always a couple of people pulling out just before an event), everyone on the waiting list gets an email. The first that logs onto the website and clicks on the button RSVP on the event page, fills the spot.
I try to come to events but they fill up very fast and I always seem to be to late. What to do?
Always sign up for the waiting list. This gives you a good chance on a spot (see the previous question)
How difficult is a walk?
How difficult is a walk?
We use a a graphic with a 10 point rating to rate the difficulty of walks (and sometimes other events)
Explanation rating:
1/10: super easy stroll (2 hrs and slow pace and no steep sections) anyone can do this walk.
2/10: easy stroll (2-3 hrs and/or slow pace and/or no steep sections) basic level of fitness required.
3/10: easy walk (3 hrs and/or slow pace and/or no steep sections) basic level of fitness required. Example: Hutt River Walk
4/10: light moderate walk (3-4 hrs and/or a couple of steep sections) moderate level of fitness required. Examples: Hutt River Walk
5/10: moderate walk (3-5 hrs and/or a couple of steep sections) moderate level of fitness required. Example: Wairaki Walkway
6/10: strenuous walk (3-4 hrs and steep/exposed sections) good level of fitness required. Examples: Colonial Knob, Northern Walkway
7/10: very strenuous walk (4-5 hrs and/or fast pace, and very steep/exposed sections) a good level of fitness required.
8/10: challenging walk (6 hrs or more, good pace, steep/exposed sections) a very good level of fitness required. Examples: Puke Ariki
9/10: very challenging walk (8 hrs or more and/or fast pace and or very steep/exposed sections) very good level of fitness required.
10/10: extreme walk (multiple days, carrying camping equipment and provisions in remote areas) excellent level of fitness required.
Are outdoor events cancelled when it rains?
Organising outdoor events in Wellington means that we sometimes have to make a judgement call depending on the difficulty of the walk and weather forecasts. We always err on the side of safety, but since this is "Adventure Wellington" we are not afraid to become a bit wet ;-) An event goes ahead unless the event organiser says otherwise. The event organiser will keep an eye on the weather and inform people who have RSVP-ed for an event accordingly. If an event is cancelled due to the weather, the event organiser will inform all people who RSVP-ed (by placing a comment on the event page and/or mailing the members) at least two hours before the event start.
I want to go to events but don’t have a car. Can I still RSVP?
There are always enough people we can give rides, something we promote. Simply mention that you could use a ride in a comment on the event page.
I have an idea for an event... What now?
Tell us about it! Email an organiser or approach them during an event. Or simply flick an email to adventurewellington@gmail.com
Can I organise an event for Adventure Wellington myself if I want to?
Sure! We can always use more event organisers. If it’s the first time you organise an event for Adventure Wellington, we’ll team you up with an experienced event organiser to make things easier. Have a look at the following page: Try out event hosting!

NO SHOWS
I’ve changed my RSVP yesterday evening, but have still received a no-show for an event today?
You cannot change your RSVP after 7pm the day before the event takes place; changing your RSVP after 7pm results in a no-show. The reason is that changing your RSVP that late makes it almost impossible for someone else to fill your place. See the Group Rules
Why are you guys so strict in no-shows?
Because we think they are just rude and antisocial behavior. Not only for the hosts, who put a lot of energy and time in organising the events, but also for members who would have liked to come along but were denied that chance. In the past we received a lot of complaints from members about no-shows and we learned from that.
I’ve RSVP-ed for an event today but am really sick. Do I still get a no-show?
Unfortunately yes. Our no-show policy is deliberate objective, simply because we don’t want to burden our event organisers with the impossible task to assess if an excuse is justifiable or not. But we always appreciate a message. Especially for circumstances outside one's control, we added the rule that a no-show is crossed off after half a year.
My membership has been deleted because of 3 no-shows. Does this mean I cannot join the group anymore?
If your membership has been deleted due to 3 no-shows, you are welcome to join again after half a year. If you decide to do this, the first half year will be probationary, what means that your membership is deleted after one no-show.
I have no-showed for an event and now I'm asked to pay money?
Sometimes we clearly mention in the event text that if you no-show, you still owe AW money. For some events we have to book an instructor in advance and split the costs over the attendees. We could of course ask attendees to pay in advance but don't want to do that because it costs too much time and we like to trust our members. But the principle stays the same: you reserved your spot and not showing up (or changing your RSVP at the last moment) doesn't mean you don't have to pay for your reserved spot.
DEPOSITS AND REFUNDS
Some events require a deposit. Are deposits being refunded if I decide to pull out?
Yes, unless you pull out after the date on which your deposit becomes non-refundable (always clearly mentioned in the event text).
What happens with my deposit if an event is cancelled?
If an event is postponed the event host will ask you whether you prefer moving to the new date or getting a refund. If an event is cancelled all payments will be refunded.
When can I expect my refund?
Refunds will be processed within 2 weeks after receiving your bank account details.
