This is a beginners' session for those who'd like to try out fencing and haven't yet been on a 'have a go' session.  Please read the DIRECTIONS carefully to ensure you can find the entrance to the venue.

For those who have and want to do more, please take a look at the 'more fencing' events, where we'll advance on to have a go with the other weapons and move beyond the foil to explore Epee and Sabre.

With instruction from Hutt Valley Fencing Club, this intro session is a roughly 90 minute session designed to give you an introduction to the skills and techniques involved in the noble art of fencing, if you've never fenced before.

What's involved? The session includes a warm up, tuition on the basics of footwork and an introduction to the techniques used in fencing with foil as a weapon.  You'll then partner up and learn to put this into practice fencing against one another.

Costs: Full safety equipment is provided by HVFC and the cost of this session is $30 cash on the day (no EFTPOS facilities).

What to bring: You'll need to wear loose sporting clothing (e.g. Track suit bottoms, rather than jeans) and bring a small towel and a water bottle. It gets pretty hot running about in all the kit and fencing is an active physical workout!

The venue is HVFC just off the main road in Petone, on Petone Ave at the CORNER of Campbell Terrace. It's on a main bus route from Wellington city centre and there's free on street parking on Petone Ave just outside the entrance, and on Campbell Terrace.

The entrance to the fencing club is just around the corner on Petone Ave, through a red side door in the light coloured building.  The entrance is NOT on Campbell Terrace.  There'll be a meetup sign pinned to the wall on the day.
