Join us for the final - and longest - AW rafting event of the summer. Prepare to raft the rapids on the scenic Otaki River -- a six hour epic adventure all the way to the ocean!

Cost: $100

What we're doing:

We start our day in the comfort of Otaki Base Camp, where full bathroom and changing facilities are available. Once we get into all the latest gear to keep us warm on the river, it’s a quick 10-minute drive to the top of the river. After a comprehensive safety briefing it’s on to the river to practice some of the things our guides have been talking about. The river starts out gently, and then we start looking for spots to play in!

The group will be guided down the grade 2 river, which means that not all boats will have a guide in them, giving you a chance to guide the boat. Swim down rapids, jump off cliffs, or sit back and enjoy the scenery.

This event will mimic the previous events for the first section, and then by lunchtime, we'll reach the usual stop-off point for lunch at Otaki Base Camp.

However, then we'll do a new stretch of river, continuing for more antics during the afternoon until we reach the ocean.

This adventure will take about six hours to complete.

Grade 2 Rivers

Rivers are categorised into different grades, depending on volume of water and difficulty, Grade 1 being easy flat water and Grade 6 the biggest and wildest water! The Otaki is a fun Grade 2.

Experienced Guides

Captivate Adventures Guides and instructors are all experienced and qualified beyond national standards. The ratio is usually 1 guide to 11 rafters.

What do I need?
- Swimsuit or shorts and top to wear under a wetsuit.
- Old sneakers / runners (they will get wet) to wear in the river and protect your feet. Wetsuit booties are great, too.
- Towel
- A few munchie bars
- Personal medication e.g. inhalers

What if I can’t swim?
No real problem. Wetsuits, helmets and life jackets are provided. A full briefing is given. Be cautious and tell your qualified guide how you feel about the water.

Length of trip:
Allow for a full day. i.e. up to 6 hours.

Medical conditions:
The trip leader prior to the departure should know any medical condition.

Glasses:
Usually no problem - use a tie (e.g. a piece of string)

Cameras:
We recommend waterproof disposable cameras while rafting.

Disclosure of Risk:
All customers will be asked to sign a disclosure of risk form stating that they understand all outdoor activities have an element of risk.

Changes:  Captivate Adventures reserve the right to change the itinerary if weather conditions or water levels necessitate. Currently the water levels look good but it will depend on the amount of rain the Otaki region receives in the next two weeks.

Deposit of $25 due immediately upon RSVP to:

Hi Aija, you can come in my car. I'll be leaving from Newtown, but happy to meet you at railway station if that's easier.

@ Linc: Do we all need to meet at railway station? Are the munchie bars for lunch or is lunch being provided? Thanks
