Needs a date
Khandallah Park carpark (Near Simla Crescent station)
Khandallah, Wellington (map)

Attend Adventure Wellington's first Black Tie function...on top of Mt Kau Kau!
What we're doing: Guests will climb to the summit of Mt Kau Kau carrying white tablecloths, furniture, glass and silverware where they will attend Wellington's highest ever dinner party.
Three guests will share the responsibility for each single course of the 6 course degustation banquet which they may prepare prior to the event, or for added difficulty, on location. Courses must have a vegetarian option.
Difficulty: 3.5/5
What this means: You will be climbing up (and down) a mountain dressed in completely inappropriate attire in low light conditions, probably carrying fold-up furniture and food.
What to wear: Jacket and black tie; cocktail dress.
What to bring: Extra walking shoes, food and drink for your course of the meal. A torch.
Time: From 7:00pm - 10:00pm
When: This event will take place at 7:00pm on the first calm Friday night of the year (after January 7th). You will receive 48 hours notice of the event taking place, based on wind forecasts.
(Thanks to everyone on the Butterfly Creek Walk who contributed to the creation of this event!)
Don't worry Dan, it won't clash with Roar! Good to see you onboard!
This sounds more ridiculous than the ridicnic this afternoon, which was great :)
Should have made it Butterfly Creek (or pavlova point!) by Candlelight :-) more crazy ideas from Linc :-)
HeHe, hasn't taken long for half the Pavlova Point attendees to sign up for this - cool
It wasn't me...Angie started it. She told us that this has a Peruvian history...some mountaineers tried this at 6,769 metres and ended up with malaria, bronchitis, giardia, piles, ripped shoulders, cracked ribs, hypothermia, pregnancy and a frozen bottle of red wine... hence why we're going to wait for nice weather as wine is not nice to drink frozen.
Snaiet has got it in one - this is more ridiculous than today's effort! Nice one Linc - I'll do the dessert round, have the perfect posh recipe to try on you all, just hope it wont be windy (hmmmm, wonder what it could be!)
This is hilarious, almost the whole Pavlova Point party have arrived
Yep, c that Keith has just signed up, now lets just make sure we go up the route that we all know without any serious detours :-)
I'll do the starter or first round of entrees. Anyone have a travel gas stove and a frying pan?
Ha ha, now that Claire has just signed up, looks like most of the 'riff-raff' will be at this event :=)
Veggie options gratefully accepted from those of us doing the cooking :-)
Part of the menu requirements, Eugene - see above in the description! ;)
Just imagine, Eugene...this could be the beginning of a beautiful restaurant.
I'll also bring my ipod for some musical delights. Maybe a little dance at the top after dinner!
Awesome Linc, cheers @Claire, I'll ring Cliff Richard to c if he can make it as well :-)
if the chefs among us are prepared to disclose their culinary delights I'm happy the match & deliver some wines as ac-compliments
Okay, so who went to Oxford Uni? Isn't this 'extreme dining'? Always wanted to do it, mind you...but we ate baked beans at Aberystwyth uni.
I have a travel stove, sauté pan and exceptional culinary skills (even if I do say so myself) don't you know what what.
Judging by Gareth's BBQ skillz at Christmas and his efforts at Pav Pt, I think we have a lot to look forward to :)
Aberystwyth uni has a charm of it's own, looking forward to the 100 ways with beans from you :0)
There does appear to be a seat at the top http://kiwicavaliers.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/dscn0055...![]()

So glad my name made it onto the list -driving back from Coromandel early just to make it to this :) I can bring a dessert -will need bowls and a chilli bin to put the yoghurt into -is someone already bringing these? If not, let me know and I can sort it.
Walked up Mt Kaukau today to reacquaint myself with the route. Took me 40 mins to huff and puff to the top (carrying no gear) but not that bad. There are two picnic tables at the top (but too far apart to both be used and a platform thing that might seat about 16 people, 4-5 on a seat, the rest on the wooden base, but no table. Lovely sheltered walk up but pretty cold and windy at the top. Am looking forward to this - hope I am free for the date that eventuates.
Awesome Snaiet. We're going to have to bring up our own tables and chairs (fold-up / aluminium) but the ones already there will serve perfectly for food prep.
Hey Linc, I haven't missed receiving the 48 hours notice for this have I? I'm getting paranoid I've missed it in my overloaded inbox! cheers, k-j
Hi K-J, I was wondering the same thing but I notice Fri's forecast is rain. Meanwhile, apart from food, is there any gear we should be sourcing or pooling or is everything arranged and we distribute the hauling of it?
We still need to source aluminium camp tables which disassemble and fold-up camp chairs, as well as organizing to rent crockery and tableware. Due to Amazing Race organizing won't begin until next week.
With the newbies walk moved to 10/2, that leaves one free Friday with no chance of an AW clash - this Friday for the month of Feb. Wind seems pretty relentless. March perhaps?
Not that I'm going to this anymore, but do you mean March this year, or next year, cos by then, we might actually get a windless Friday :-)
Nothing like a bit of wind and rain to add to the 'extreme ' factor, I'm out for this weekend tho.
There is a small chance that this may go ahead this weekend -- the predicted wind is low on Saturday evening. We'll decide on Thursday night... that's when you'll be receiving more info.
Can't make it this weekend so will pull out if confirmed. Waitg list keep an eye out
Hi Linc, if you need any help this week in the planning of this event (assuming it goes ahead), just let me know, I have some spare time on my hands and extreme events are my specialty!
Wind forecast has switched from <10km/h to >50km/h on Saturday night... so this w/end is not going to be on! Let's all keep an eye on the weather reports for low wind! Cheers
I'm in, so long as the first calm Friday isn't the same night as Roar!
